When It Rains, It Pours

No pun intended....

Okay, pun intended... I couldn't resist. Anyway, Here's the deal. Another storm in headed for the Gulf of Mexico and will be at least a Cat 4, according to Accuweather.com:

The worst case scenario for a hurricane is when it is over very warm water, high pressure builds to the north of the storm center and no matter which way the storm goes, it has to make landfall. In regard to hurricane Rita all these criteria will be met this week. That means the storm will become at least a category 4 hurricane when it is over the central Gulf of Mexico.
Here's an image of the path the expected path and target area.

I'm sure the response will be much better than it was for Katrina, but this is going to cost the nation much, much, more. We're already borrowing money from Japan, China, Korea, and Saudi Arabia to finance our tax cuts, wars, and disaster relief... We can't afford to have to fight 2 front war against mother nature.

Next, Martial Law

More evidence that Bush is a fascist (from USA Today):

WASHINGTON — After the government's response to Hurricane Katrina, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee is questioning whether changes are needed in disaster-response policies, including repealing a law that prohibits the use of federal troops in domestic law enforcement.
The law(s) that the article refer to are the Posse Comitatus Act and perhaps the Insurrection Act. These laws limit the authority the military has to perform domestic law enforcement activities. They were passed shortly after the Civil War to prevent the military from overseeing elections and imposing their will on southern states during reconstruction.

This is scary, with USAPATRIOT Act I and II giving law enforcement much more authority to detain suspects without due process indefinitely and expand the powers of search and seizure and things like that, we now have a move to give the President the authority to police our citizens.

Perhaps the scariest thing is this. The military is designed to fight enemies of the state. When you start using the military to police the citizens, it isn't too long before the military starts looking at the citizens as enemies of the state. Let me repeat that...When you start using the military to police the citizens, it isn't too long before the military starts looking at the citizens as enemies of the state. And when that happens, we are in real trouble.

Fascism

The definition of Fascism from Wikipedia:

The term fascism has come to mean any system of government resembling Mussolini's, that in various combinations:
  • exalts the nation and party above the individual, with the state apparatus being supreme.
  • stresses loyalty to a single leader, and submission to a single culture.
  • engages in economic totalitarianism through the creation of a Corporatist State, where the divergent economic and social interests of different races and classes are combined with the interests of the State.
I dare someone to tell me that George W. Bush is NOT a fascist.
